Audi A3 e-tron on sale soon

Audi’s hybrid-powered A3 Sportback e-tron goes on sale early in August, with a price tag of £34,950.

The A3 e-tron uses a conventional, 148bhp 1.4 TFSi petrol engine attached to a 75kWh electric motor. Combined, they produce a healthy 201bhp and 258lb/ft of torque. Power goes to the front wheels via a six-speed S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox.

If it matters, 0-62mph is dealt with in 7.6 seconds, with a top speed of 137mph. Much more relevant is claimed fuel consumption of up to 176.6mpg and Co2 emissions as low as 37g/km. The e-tron can go 31 miles on battery power, which can be recharged from a domestic socket in four hours – useful if you have a short commute.

As standard, the A3 e-tron comes with climate control, revised styling for better aerodynamics, 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, MMI infotainment and in-car internet access.

At thirty-five grand, the A3 e-tron costs more than the 296bhp S3. But if the potential savings of fuel and tax add up, the A3 e-tron could well be worth the money.
